Tonometrics
Something that I found that I think has some very practical use for the music student is a site called Tonometrics.com. Tonometrics are neuroscience-based tests that students can take to test their ability to differentiate musical concepts such as pitch and rhythm. You can take the test as often as you want and it can really be used as a good practice tool to fine tune skills in tonal and rhythmic identification. Although the site isn't very "flashy" and seems to be a bit sterile, I think that it offers some really nice practice for students of music to test and refine their basic skills.

Very cool site! I did very well on all but rhythm test! My best score was on the musical/visual where you have to match shapes to the musical phrases that are played. I would have loved this as a middle/high school student.
ReplyDeleteI like the fact that you can do it multiple times, so with practice you could see if you improve! It could be like a pre-test and post-test. Is there any way for you to receive the kids' scores?

ReplyDeleteYeah the rhythm test is really quite difficult. I still haven't achieved a score that I'm proud of :). There isn't a way that score can be reported to me, however, students can print out or screen shot their results as an exit ticket if I wanted to track their progress.
